While we do not have a large number of dogs to be rescued we do have a few to be re-homed from time to time.

Rescue

Great Lakes Irish Wolfhound Association assists in finding appropriate new homes for Irish Wolfhounds which, for any reason, cannot stay in their current home. Sometimes this is truly a rescue from a dangerous or abusive situation but more often it involves re-homing an IW because of changing family circumstances, relinquishment to an animal shelter, or straying/loss from home.

The purpose of rescue is to find the best fit for both hound and family. The objective is to place the dog in a home where it will live out its life with love and care. Dogs are placed with this in mind, which may not be the order in which applications are received. GLIWA rescue does not refer people to breeders.

GLIWA Rescue receives on average 5-7 dogs per year. There is an application process to go through to adopt and re-home one of our wonderful wolfhounds. If you would like to fill out an application to be considered as a potential adoption home, please email one of our rescue coordinators (contact information above).  You will be sent  the appropriate paperwork as well as some valuable guidelines that may help answer any questions you have about the dogs and the process of adoption.
